University of Rhode Island golf star Chris Francoeur has announced that he will transfer to Louisville for his fifth year of eligibility.

Francoeur made the announcement on Twitter.

“Happy to say I will be using my 5th year of eligibility to finish my college golf career at the University of Louisville! Thank you to Coach Burke, my teammates, and URI for the best 4 years of my life! Looking forward to the next chapter,” wrote Francoeur.

In his time at URI, Francoeur played in 24 events for the Rams. 

He racked up two wins, seven top-5 finishes and 11 top -15 finishes. 

Like many seniors across the country, his career was cut short due to the pandemic.

Francoeur was named the 2020 New England Golfer of the Year, made the 2020 All-New England Team and was named to the 2020 PING All-Northeast Region Team. 

Outside of URI, Francoeur won medalist honors at the Massachusetts Amateur and lost in the semifinals. 

Back in June, Francoeur nearly qualified for the PGA’s Travelers Championship in Connecticut, missing the cut by a few shots. 

In October, Francoeur won the prestigious Tarlow Invitational at Thorny Lea Golf Course. 

He is currently ranked 266th in the PGA Tour University rankings.
