URI Golf Star Francoeur Ties for Medalist Honors at Mass Amateur
University of Rhode Island golf star Chris Francoeur tied for medalist honors at the Mass Amateur with firefighter Matt Parziale at three-under par.
Parziale finished his second round early Wednesday morning with pars on his final two holes to tie Francoeur.
Francoeur will be the number one seed heading into match play, while Parziale will be the number two seed.
Staring the round one shot back of than leader Jeremy Meade, Francoeur played the opening nine holes in one over par after bogeying the seventh hole.
However, Francoeur got it going late on the back nine.
After parring the first five holes on the side, Francoeur dropped an eagle putt on the 15th hole to get him to one under on the round.
He saved par on 16 before birding 17 to get to four-under for the tournament.
A bogey on the closing hole would set him back into a tie for the lead at three-under.
Round one leader, Meade, finished the stroke play portion at one-under par.
