Former URI Star Francoeur to Turn Pro After U.S. Amateur
Former University of Rhode Island star Chris Francoeur will turn pro following next week’s U.S. Amateur in New Jersey.
“The biggest excitement is to try and get started and test my game at the highest level. Ever since I was 12-13 years old this has been a dream of mine,” Francoeur told The Salem News.
Francoeur will go to Korn Ferry Tour pre-qualifying school at Highlands Golf Course from August 24-26.
He would then advance to the First Stage of Q-School.
“The biggest fear is just the unknown of the next six months. Obviously it’s going to be a grind, and nothing is guaranteed when you get to this point,” Francoeur said.
Francoeur will join Will Dickson and Davis Chatfield in Q-School.
Francoeur’s family has set up a donation page to help offset some of the costs.

In his time at URI, Francoeur played in 24 events for the Rams.
He racked up two wins, seven top-5 finishes and 11 top -15 finishes.
Francoeur was named the 2020 New England Golfer of the Year, made the 2020 All-New England Team and was named to the 2020 PING All-Northeast Region Team.
Outside of URI, Francoeur won medalist honors at the 2020 Massachusetts Amateur and lost in the semifinals.
Back in June of 2020, Francoeur nearly qualified for the PGA’s Travelers Championship in Connecticut, missing the cut by a few shots.
In October 202, Francoeur won the prestigious Tarlow Invitational at Thorny Lea Golf Course.
Following his four years at URI, Francoeur transferred to Louisville for his final collegiate season.
