Long Time RI Golf Pro Rick Holcomb Passes Away
Long time Rhode Island teaching pro Rick Holcomb has passed away, his son announced on Facebook on Tuesday night.
In 1973, Holcomb set the east coast speed golf record at Triggs, playing it in 39 minutes and 17 seconds.
“It was a beautiful morning that day, I teed off at 8 a.m. on the first tee at Triggs. By 8:39:17 I had played 18 holes, running the entire way, and carded an 89,” Holcomb recalled in an article he wrote for GolfNewsRI in 2020.
Holcomb taught at Seeking Driving Range until it closed, before moving on to give lessons at Valley, work at Golfers Warehouse and other places.

“I am saddened to learn about the passing of Rick Holcomb on Tuesday night.
As a kid, I would go to Seekonk Driving Range and get golf lessons from Rick, along with my brothers, on a weekly basis. He would always have his cigars ready to go.
Fast forward years later and I launch GolfNewsRI in 2020.
I talked to Rick often during that first year and he actually contributed a few articles for us. One was a tribute to Seekonk Driving Range and the other was on his speed golf record.
He was also great at helping us with stories and offering advice on what to cover, what not cover etc… while we were still trying to figure it out back in 2020.
