Rick Holcomb: A Tribute to Seekonk Driving Range

My 29 years at the Seekonk Driving range was filled with many rewarding experiences. I taught an estimated 35,000 students from all around the world, including many foreign exchange students.

Editors Note: Sunday, May 31 is the four year anniversary of Seekonk Driving Range closing. GolfNewsRI’s Holcomb was a staple there for almost 30 years.

Over the time, I spent 24 years with the learning connection, 17 years with CCRI, eight years with the wonderful people from the Trudeau Center (special needs) five years with the Providence Journal, plus my own groups.

I absolutely loved teaching every single one of them, and watching them improve was the biggest reward in my four decades.

In some cases, I had family’s of four generations.

One thing I am very proud of is that I never missed a class or a lesson, during all that time.

While working at the range, I also was a store manager at Nevada Bob’s, then Golf Day, and later worked at Golfsmith as a club fitter, but one of the saddest days of my life was when the Seekonk Driving Range was sold.

My time there was nothing short of magnificent.
