Patrick Reed has been hospitalized with bilateral pneumonia, according to a statement he gave to Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.

Reed pulled out of the Northern Trust on Thursday morning with an ankle injury.

“The good news is, my ankle is okay. The bad news is I’ve been in the hospital with bilateral pneumonia. I’m on the road to recovery, once I’m cleared from the doctors – I look forward to returning. I wish you all the best and I can’t wait to get back out there,” said Reed in the statement.

He continues, “Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot to me. Also, a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at The Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.”

Reed will not play in the BMW Championship, meaning that his season could be over.

Reed entered Liberty National ranked 22nd in the FedEx Cup and is projected to drop to 27th.

The chances of him dropping out of the top 30 after next week are high.

Reed is also ninth in the Ryder Cup standings, but if healthy, would seem likely he would get a captain’s pick.
