Welch Earns Top 20 Finish in Korn Ferry Tour Return
Classical grad Patrick Welch earned a top 20 finish in his Korn Ferry Tour return at the Evans Scholars Invitational.
Welch finished at 16-under par for the tournament and in a tie for 17th overall.
He carded a 72 in the first round, but then bounced back with rounds of 64, 67 and a final round 65.
Welch’s final round 65 moved him 19 spots up the leaderboard.
As GolfNewsRI reported, Welch had not played a Korn Ferry Tour event in several months leading up to this week.
His previous two KFT starts came back in January in the Bahamas where he missed the cut in both of them.
Francoeur Takes 33rd
Former URI star Chris Francoeur finished in solo 33rd for the tournament with a score of 14-under par.
He was tied with Welch with a few holes to go, but he doubled the 18th hole to drop two shots.
Francoeur finishes the week with scores of 66, 67, 66 and a final round 71.
