Wannamoisett Course Record Tied for 2nd Straight Year at Northeast Am
For the second straight year, a Northeast Am competitor tied the Wannamoisett Course record.
University of North Carolina’s Carson Bertagnole fired a course-record tying 61 (8-under) during the first round of the Northeast Amateur on Wednesday.
“It was pretty good. I got off to a good start, birdied three and birdied five to get to two-under early and then just kind of kept it rolling,” said Bertagnole after the round.

Preston Stout fired a 61 at last year’s tournament and then went on to win it a couple of days later.
Bertagnole currently leads the tournament by three shots with the afternoon wave off and running.
“To fire a 61, it definitely gives confidence and will just try and do the same thing the next three days,” Bertagnole.
Bertagnole told the media that this was his lowest career round.
Course Tying Round
Starting his day early on the front nine, Bertagnole opened with back-to-back pars on the first two holes, before birding the famous par-3 third.
He added a birdie on the fifth hole, and two more birdies on seven and eight to get to four-under par.
After giving a shot back on the ninth, Bertagnole turned a 31.

Turning to the back side, Bertagnole dropped birdies on the tenth and 11th holes, before adding another on 14.
Moving to the par-5 17th, Bertagnole made a birdie out of the trees.
“I kind of overdrew a driver there. It hit the left trees and luckily stayed in. Kinda hit a punch six-iron, was trying to leave it short of the green and give myself a chip, but it rolled up a lot farther and I had an eagle putt,” Bertagnole said.
He closed the round with a birdie on 18 to card the 61.
