The Most Intriguing Matches on the 2026 High School Golf Schedule

Advertisements

The weather is improving, courses are opening for play and the Rhode Island high school golf season is just days away.

In fact, tryouts and practices are already underway and there are even some scrimmages on the schedule.

The 2026 season presents some very intriguing matches and storylines, all leading up to the State Championship at Cranston Country Club.

GolfNewsRI has taken the liberty to go through the entire schedule and break out the most intriguing matches to watch – at least on paper.

Before you continue reading, a few things should be noted.

This is based solely on the Rhode Interscholastic League schedule, meaning that Challenge Cup events, and Invitational Tournaments (ie. Hendricken Invitational), and obviously the State Championship are not included.

The matches are in no particular order.

GolfNewsRI’s coverage of High School Golf is presented by Golf365RI.

April 6

Moses Brown vs Johnston vs North Providence (location not determined)

An early season West Division matchup that could set the tone between last year’s second, third and fourth place teams.

The match showcases MB star Adriana Eaton against two rising stars at Johnston in Elizabeth and Kamryn Kue.

Elizabeth recently shared medalist honors with Eaton at Challenge Cup’s Match Play qualifier.

April 27

Prout vs Chariho at Richmond CC

The South Division had four teams make the State Championship tournament last season, led by Prout, and might be the most interesting division this season.

Led by Rocco Capalbo, Prout went undefeated in the regular season to win the division, by Chariho finished second and got into the dance based on iWR.

This season, Chariho had 33 golfers try out for the team as they hope to make a run for the division.

A nice mid-season measuring stick match.

May 4

South Kingstown vs North Kingstown vs Westerly at Laurel Lane

The other two teams that made the tournament from the South Division was North Kingstown and South Kingstown.

SK finished third in the division and NK finished fourth, but both teams got in by iWR percentage points.

A rivalry matchup between two tournament teams relatively late in the season.

East Providence vs Barrington vs Mt. Hope at Agawam Hunt

The Eagles rolled to an undefeated record and East Division title in 2025 behind Lily Dessel and Claire McTaggart.

McTaggart is back for her senior season and will try to lead the Eagles to another State Tournament.

Mt. Hope finished second in the division with a 13-3 record, but missed making the State Tournament by about four iWR points.

East Providence will look to improve on last season’s 8-7 record, and  could be a sleeper team this season.

A great mid-season battle with potentially big implications down the road.

Cranston West vs Hendricken vs Coventry at Cranston CC

A critical two-day stretch for Hendricken kicks off with a matchup against reigning division champion Cranston West at Cranston CC.

The Hawks finished 9-3 last season to make the tournament on iWR, but will look to get back in the division picture this season.

Certainly, this match with the Falcons will go along way toward that.

Expect Coventry to be improved from last season as well.

May 6

East Greenwich vs Hendricken vs West Warwick at Potowomut

Branching off the above, the Hawks will battle East Greenwich and West Warwick the next day at Potowomut.

EG edged Hendricken by a “game” for second place last season, but Hendricken actually had a lower iWR than the Crusaders.

Back-to-back critical Central Division matchups.

May 7

Middletown vs Portsmouth vs PCD at Wanumentomy

The Portsmouth Patriots are a team to watch in the East Division after going 11-2 last season and finishing third to Prout and Mt. Hope.

Portsmouth missed qualifying for the State Tournament by .3 iWR points and will look to avenge that this season.

Middletown is on the rise after going 9-7 in 2025 and finishing fourth in the division.

May 11

Smithfield vs Lincoln vs Burrillville at Lincoln CC

These three teams finished one, two and three in the North Division last season with Smithfield going undefeated and advancing to the State Championship.

Lincoln went 10-2 to finish second, with both losses coming to Smithfield.

The Lions missed the tournament by mere iWR percentage points

By this time in the season, all three teams will have already played each other once and so this final meeting could have major implications.

La Salle vs Moses Brown at Agawam Hunt

La Salle has dominated the high school golf scene over the last four + years, but Moses Brown has hung with them in the division race.

The two squads have finished first and second in each of the last couple of years so who know what this match could mean.

And to add to the fun, the match contains two of the best players in the state in LSA’s Drew MacLeod and Moses Brown’s Adriana Eaton.

Cranston West vs East Greenwich at Potowomut.

These two squads battled until the final days of the regular season in 2025 to determine the Central Division.

Cranston West finished at 10-1-1 to clinch the division, while EG finished at 9-2-1 to finish second, but make the tournament on iWR.

The tie came against each other.

What will be in store for this budding rivalry this season?
