RI Stroke Play Trophy to be Named After Paul Quigley
The Rhode Island Stroke Play Championship trophy will be named after Paul Quigley, the Rhode Island Golf Association (RIGA) announced on Wednesday.
Starting this August at Alpine, the winner will receive the Paul Quigley Trophy.
“I never really thought about naming anything after me. It’s an honor. Any time you can stand out on the accomplishments you’ve made there’s a big sense of pride. I was lucky, or good enough to win it nine times,” said Quigley in the RIGA press release.

Quigley won the Stroke Play Championship in 1988, 1989, 1990,’92, ’93, ’95, ’96, ’99 and 2000.
He also won three State Amateur titles, a Mid-Amateur title, three Four-Ball titles and seven Senior Amateur titles.
“Paul’s accomplishments speak for themselves, but winning the RIGA’s Stroke Play Championship nine times is an incredible feat, one that stands alone. When you think about the Stroke Play Championship, an event he helped create 40-plus years ago, it’s only fitting to name this trophy in his honor. We are thrilled to make this long-deserved announcement. Every future champion will enjoy a connection to Paul’s legacy,” said Bob Ward, Executive Director of RIGA in a press release.
The 2026 Rhode Island Stroke Play Championship is set to be held August 10-11 at Alpine.
Harry Dessel is the defending champion.
Quigley, along with Kevin Blaser, joined GolfNewsRI TV this past summer.
