Chatfield, Welch Set to Begin Korn Ferry Tour Finals – What to Know

Davis Chatfield and Patrick Welch are set to kick off the Korn Ferry Tour Finals this week at the Simmons Bank Open in Tennessee.

However, they enter the KFT Finals in different positions.

Here is what you need to know about the KFT Finals, Chatfield and Welch.

Korn Ferry Tour Finals

The Korn Ferry Tour Finals consists of four events starting with this week’s Simmons Bank Championship.

There will be a total of 156 players this week, but the field will be cut to 144 for next week’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.

Onto the third event where the top 120 players on the KFT Points List advance to the Compliance Solutions Championship.

The Korn Ferry Tour Championship in Indiana will consist of just the top 75 players on the points list and will be a no cut event.

Chatfield’s Position

Davis Chatfield enters the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in great position to earn a PGA Tour Card in a couple of weeks.

Chatfield is seventh on the Points List entering the week with 1171.861 total points.

It feels like that he has been well inside the top 20, even the top 10, on the points list for about 90% of the Korn Ferry Tour season, which started back in January.

This season, Chatfield has played 21 events, and has two runner-up Finnishes, six top tens, and ten top 25 finishes.

While Chatfield seems like a shoe in for a PGA Tour Card, things can change quickly in these few weeks with the elevated points distribution.

However, if he continues to play the way he has been for pretty much the entire year, getting a PGA Tour Card in a few weeks shouldn’t be a problem.

Chatfield begins his Korn Ferry Tour Finals at 1:10 p.m. on Thursday.

Patrick Welch’s Position

Classical grad Patrick Welch is in more of a tenuous position heading into the finals.

Playing this season with conditional Korn Ferry Tour status, Welch was well outside the cut for any significant status on the Korn Ferry Tour next season.

That was until the Price Cutter Championship in July when he finished second and jumped 85 spots up the points list.

Patrick Welch

He enters the KFT finals sitting 54th on the points list.

The important numbers to think about with Welch are 75 and 100.

If Welch stays inside the top 75 on the Points List (meaning he makes it to the Championship), he earns full status on KFT for the 2026 season.

If he falls out of the top 75, but stays inside the top 100, he will keep conditional status – what he had this year.

As the Korn Ferry Tour writes, “fall beyond that, and the path forward is uncertain at best.”

A lot at stake for Welch over the next month or so.

Welch begins his Korn Ferry Tour Finals at 8:55 a.m. off the tenth tee.
