BREAKING: Preston Stout Wins 2025 Northeast Amateur
Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout captured the 2025 Northeast Amateur Championship on Saturday afternoon at Wannamoisett.
Buoyed by a second round 61 to tie the course record, Stout finished the tournament at 9-under par to take home the trophy.
“I’m just really proud of myself I think. Yesterday (Friday) was a hard day for everybody. I felt like I kind of lost my swing yesterday and to be able to come back today and strike it really nice, felt really good. A lot of great players have came through here and won this event , so to be able to put my name up there with them is awesome,” said Stout after the round.

For the week, Stout posted rounds of 69, 61, 72 and a final round 65 for a total of 267.
“I think I took it just day-by-day. Just act like it is another round of golf every day, reset your mind and see where it takes you,” added Stout.
He did admit that the second-round 61 changed things a little.
“Yea, I played pretty nice on the second day. That definitely helps you win golf tournaments for sure when you tie course records, but after that, I knew where my game was at,” Stout said.
Stout will next play the Western Amateur and then the U.S. Amateur later this summer before returning to school.

Stout’s Final Round
Starting the day with a one shot lead over John Daly II, Stout put pressure on the field immediately with a birdie on the second hole.
He stuck his second shot to a few feet above the flag and knocked in the putt.
Following a string of four pars, Stout added another birdie on the seventh hole and parred out to turn at 32.
The rising junior took a three-shot lead to the back nine.
On the final nine holes, Stout bogeyed the par-3 12th hole after his relatively short par putt lipped out.
16-Year-old Miles Russell made a run at Stout on the back nine, with birdies on 13 and 14 to cut Stout’s lead to two shots, but a bogey by Russell on 15 ended his run.
Stout would birdie the 14th and 16th holes to give himself a five shot lead.
“After making birdie on 14, I thought that was huge and I saw Miles hit it right on 17 and so to make that putt on 16, I kind of knew that if I absolutely didn’t let the wheels fall off I had it,” said Stout.
Stout would add another birdie for more insurance on the par-5 17th hole and a two-putt par on 18 to seal the win.
Oklahoma State on Good Run
It has been a pretty good month for Stout, who helped Oklahoma State win the NCAA National Championship back in May and now he wins the Northeast Amateur.
Stout’s teammate Ethan Fang also clinched the 130th Amateur Championship overseas on Saturday, just head of Stout lifting his trophy.
“I was having a hard time warming up, just watching him finish up on my phone. Super proud of him. I think that just kind of shows where our team is at right now. We are really, really good,” said Stout.
Stout hinted that he plans to return to the Northeast Amateur next summer, and perhaps he will collect a few more trophies along the way.
