My Amateur Golf Tour of New England Debut
This is sponsored content.
Earlier this week, I made my Amateur Golf Tour of New England (AGTNE) debut at Rhode Island Country Club.
As I am sure you all have seen, GNRI partnered with AGTNE for this season and they invited me to play in any or all of the events that I want.
Full disclosure, I signed up through the website and paid the entrance fee just like everyone else.
I chose the RI CC event for multiple reasons, including the weather, RI CC is not a place that you can just go an play anytime, great content opportunity and the State Amateur is there in a couple of months.
I was also nervous about playing because this was only going to be my second round of the year, so my only goal was to not embarrass myself.
Game Day
The day before the tournament, AGTNE sends you an email and a text message with your tee time, GGID (Golf Genius) code and other needed information.
My tee time was 11:10 a.m. as we were the last group off.
They tell players to get there 30 minutes before your tee time, I was there a little earlier than that as I wanted to give myself time for traffic and to do content before teeing off.

At this point, I was still a little nervous as I didn’t know anyone there, other than AGTNE’s Wendy Brown who was running the event.
Upon getting to the first tee at Rhode Island CC and meeting my foursome, my nerves were settled.
Everyone in the group was really nice and, as it turns out, we were all around the same handicap.
Meaning, we all showed some flashes of brilliance, and more flashes of bad golf.
I will spare you the play-by-play of my round, because it is not that interesting, but I shot 104 and did not finish last – which I was happy about.
Realistically, I probably should have been in the high 90s, but just some really dumb mistakes around the greens cost me strokes.

I hit some really GREAT tee shots, other good shots and was happy to make a few pars on the round, including on the famous par-3 17th hole.
Going forward, I’m going to try to play a couple more tournaments with AGTNE this season, probably later in the year as they visit other fun courses like Agawam Hunt, Green Valley, South Shore Village and more.
Plus, my game will be a little better by than – hopefully.
Hopefully, you will join the fun as well.
Next Up for AGTNE
The AGTNE’s next Rhode Island tournament is on Saturday, May 3 at Triggs.
Those interested in signing up must do so by April 26.
