URI Golf to Establish Devon Quigley Courage Award

The University of Rhode Island golf team has announced the establishment of the Devon Quigley Courage Award.

The award is in honor of former URI golfer Devon Quigley who passed away at the age of 39 back in October.

“Devon was the bright light in every situation. People were just drawn to him. He was the consummate teammate and an important member of some of the very best teams URI has ever had. Devon’s unbridled enthusiasm and optimism showed in his own game as he found a way to make terrific scores from unlikely spots on the golf course. But his light was brightest after his accident. Devon is missed tremendously, but he inspired and will continue to inspire all of us,” said URI head coach Gregg Burke in a statement.

The award will be given to a member of the URI Golf Community who exhibited the courage and dignity in the face of challenge or illness.

Quigley was in a severe car accident in 2011 that left him with a traumatic brain injury.

In remembrance of Devon Quigley’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the URI Golf Ram Par Fund which supports the URI men’s golf program.
