A couple of weeks ago we had a “Big Tuesday,” and it certainly was.
This Tuesday, we are calling it a Super Tuesday with three major events going on involving Rhode Islanders.
RI Women’s Am
The biggest event starting on Tuesday is the Rhode Island Women’s Amateur at Kirkbrae Country Club.
Tee times begin for the stroke play qualifying round at 9:30 a.m. and end around noon (including net and senior divisions).
Kylie Eaton enters the tournament as the defending champion and gets to defend the title on her home course where she had won four-straight club championships prior to this year.
She will face big challenges from her sister Adriana, last year’s runner up Morgan MacLeod and Olivia Williams.
Williams just beat Eaton in the RI Junior Amateur Championship last week.
A player to watch out for is Lilly Dessel, who has the ability to make some noise in the tournament.
Match play begins on Wednesday with the championship set for Saturday.
Rhode Island Open
The first round of Rhode Island Open is underway at Connecticut National.
The tournament features pros such as Brad Adamonis and Andrew O’Leary, as well as, top amateurs such as Mike Hamilton, Brad Valois, Austin Cilley, Jamie Lukowicz and Harry Dessel.
Adamonis is fresh off a trip overseas where he missed the cut at the Senior Open qualifier.
O’Leary is continuing to prep for Q School starting in a few months.
The tournament is 36-holes of stroke play over two days with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Northern Junior
Also in Connecticut is the Northern Junior Championship at New Haven Country Club.
While there are no RI Girls in the tournament, there are a slew of boys competing.
The tournament includes Sam Fuentes, who is fresh off a trip to the U.S. Junior-Amateur, Cole Vieira, Ian Dunham, and defending Rhode Island Junior-Amateur champion Max Jackson,
The Northern Junior is a 36-hole tournament featuring top players from all over the country.
Next Sunday, a team version of the event is set to take place in New Hampshire.
Junior PGA Championship
And lastly, but not least, Rhode Island’s Vinny Papa and Andrew MacLeod are in Arkansas for the Junior PGA Championship.
Round one of the tournament begins on Tuesday.
