Patrick Welch fired a first round 69 and sits in a tie for fifth at the Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Puerto Rico.
Welch is three-under for the tournament and sits five shots back of East Tennessee St’s Matts Ege, who leads the tournament at eight-under.
Meanwhile, Welch’s Oklahoma Sooners are in fourth place with a team score of five-under par.
East Tennessee State leads the tournament at 16-under.
Welch’s Round
Welch opened his first tournament of the spring season with two birdies in his first five holes to get to two-under.
He parred out the rest of the side to turn at 34.
On the back side, Welch birdied the 12th hole, before sliding back with a bogey on the 14th hole.
The former Classical star birdied the 16th hole to card a 69.
