Patrick Welch, Oklahoma Begin Spring Season in Puerto Rico
Patrick Welch and his #9 Oklahoma Sooners begin their spring season on Sunday in the Puerto Rico Classic at Grand Reserve Golf Club.
This year’s field includes 12 teams, eight of which are ranked in the top 50, including seventh ranked Tennessee.
Oklahoma enters the tournament as the defending champions.
The Sooners tee off in a shotgun with host team Purdue and No. 7 Tennessee at 7:30 a.m. eastern time.

Welch’s Final Season
For Welch, and other seniors, this will be his final collegiate golf season.
He enters it ranked eighth in PGA Tour University meaning that he will get an exemption onto the Korn Ferry Tour upon graduating – assuming he stays inside the top ten.
Welch, a redshirt senior at Oklahoma, has amassed one of the best careers in program history.
A three-time All-America honoree, the crosshanded golfer owns the fifth-lowest career scoring average in Oklahoma history at 71.45 and boasts two collegiate victories: the 2020 East Lake Cup and 2022 Southern Highlands Collegiate.
His 74 rounds of par or better in the Crimson and Cream are fourth in school history, and his back-to-back 14-under par weeks at the 2022 Puerto Rico Open and Southern Highland Collegiate marked the best two-event stretch ever for a Sooner.
