Welch Finishes 6th, Oklahoma Wins Puerto Rico Classic

Rhode Island’s Patrick Welch finished in a tie for sixth place, while his top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners took home the trophy at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday at Grand Reserve Golf Club.
Welch finished 14-under for the tournament, tied with Tennessee’s Spencer Cross and Purdue’s Herman Wibe Sekne.
Welch opened the tournament with a first round 62 to take the lead, but played the rest of the tournament in four-under to slip into sixth.

Welch’s teammate, Chris Gotterup, won the individual portion of the tournament with a three-round score of 20-under par.
Meanwhile, #1 Oklahoma posted a team score of 20-under par in the final round to overtake Georgia and win the tournament.
The Sooners finished 59-under as a team for the week.
Welch’s Final Round
Starting on the first hole, Welch eagled the par-5 fifth hole and parred out to turn at 34.
On the back side, Welch bogeyed the 14th hole, but got it back with a birdie on the 18th hole to finish the day at two-under.
It was his second consecutive two-under round.
