La Salle’s Olivia Williams Wins Girls State Championship

La Salle’s Olivia Williams won the Rhode Island High School Girls State Championship on Tuesday afternoon at Warwick Country Club. 

Williams posted an 18-hole score of four-over 76 to win the title by two shots over Barrington’s Lily Dessel and four shots over St. Mary – Bay View’s Morgan MacLeod.

“My mindset was just to take everything one shot at a time and stay focused on my process for every shot,” said Williams after the round. 

Moses Brown’s Kylie Eaton finished fourth, Rogers’ Meghan Mureddu took fifth and Smithfield’s Samantha Tinsley finished sixth.

Williams Round 

Williams started the round with a birdie on the first hole, before following it up with a bogey and double bogey on the second and third holes. 

After three straight pars, Williams bogeyed the seventh hole, then birdied the eighth hole  to turn at two-over 37. 

On the back side, Williams saved par on holes 10 and 11, then birdied the 12th hole, doubled the 13th, birdied the 14th, doubled the 15. 

The La Salle freshman then birdied the 16th, bogeyed the 17 and closed the day with a two-putt par on 18 to shoot 76.
