Mickelson Beats Woods to Win Player Impact Program
Phil Mickelson edged out Tiger Woods to win the inaugural Player Impact Program (PIP).
Mickelson takes home an extra $8 million, while Woods takes home just $6 million.
“I’d like to thank all the crazies (and real supporters too) for… helping me win the PIP. To get the second half of the money I have to add an event I haven’t played in awhile. See you in Kapalua. P.S. I’ll try and find another hot controversial topic soon,” Mickelson said in a tweet on Wednesday.
The PIP judges players on social media engagement with fans, as well as, accomplishments on the course in a given year.
Mickelson has been very active on his social media account throughout the season and also won the PGA Championship.
Tiger finished second despite not even playing a PGA Tour tournament this year.
Collin Morikawa is currently the highest ranking American golfer and he won zero dollars. He finished 11th in the PIP rankings.
Only the top ten spots pay.
