Patrick Welch Sits Out Opening Round at East Lake
Patrick Welch will not get a chance to defend his individual title at East Lake this year, as he is not in the Oklahoma lineup for Monday’s stroke play portion of the East Lake Cup.
The win made Welch the first Sooner to ever win the event.
Instead, the Sooners will go with Senior Logan McAllister, 5th year transfer Chris Gotterup, Redshirt Freshman Stephen Campbell Jr. and Freshman Drew Goodman.
“The OU lineup has combined for 26 top-10 finishes in just 66 events played with Gotterup and McAllister claiming 60 of the 66 starts,” writes Oklahoma on their website about the lineup.
With the match play portion of the tournament starting Tuesday, it is unclear if Welch will get a shot.
