University of Rhode Island golf star Chris Francoeur co-leads the Ouimet Memorial Tournament after round one at Charles River Country Club.
Francoeur posted a three-under 67 in round one to finish in a tie for the lead with Kyle Tibbetts.
Francoeur is off to Louisville for his final year of eligibility starting in the fall.
Former URI star Ben Spitz is in a tie fo fourth at even par.
Francoeur tees off at 11:56 a.m. for round two.
Francoeur’s 1st Round
Francoeur’s opening round got off to a fun start.
He birdied three of the first four holes and bogeyed the other one, making hime two under through four.
After three straight pars, Francoeur made back-to-back birdies on eight and nine to make the turn at four-under for the tournament.
Making the turn, Francoeur saved par on both the tenth and 11th holes, before a double-bogey on 12 set him back two shots.
He would make up for the double with birdies on the 15th and 16th holes, before bogeying 17 to drop back to three-under for the tournament.
Francoeur would save par on 18 to get into the clubhouse with the lead.
