RI’s Chatfield, Valois Qualify for U.S. Amateur

Two Rhode Islanders are headed to the U.S. Amateur.

Davis Chatfield and Brad Valois both made the cut early Wednesday morning at Crestwood after play was suspended on Tuesday night due to weather.

Chatfield made the cut easily, posting a ten-under par 132 for the 36-hole tournament, including rounds of 63 and 69.

The Notre Dame star is continuing his great summer. To start with, he and Palmer Jackson made to it to the U.S. Four Ball semi finals.

A couple of weeks ago, Chatfield finished fifth at the Northeast Amateur.

Meanwhile, Valois was outside the cut line when play was suspended on Tuesday night.

However, on Tuesday morning, he birdied his final three holes to get into the tournament.

Brad Valois

Valois appeared on GolfNewsRI’s RI Amateur Series Podcast a few weeks ago and said he was struggling with his confidence.

It would appear that is no longer the case.

He will tee it up in the RI Amateur next week, before prepping for Oakmont.
