It was a thrilling, and windy, two days of golf in the Challenge Cup at Alpine Country Club, capped off by Tuesday’s final round. 

The girls individual championship was claimed by Bridgewater’s Victoria Veator, who edged Kirkbrae’s Kylie Eaton by a couple of shots in the final holes.

Veator shot a two round score of 163 to win the trophy.

On the boys side of the bracket, Aiden O’Donovan beat Liam Gill on the second playoff hole to win the title.

He got himself into a playoff by firing a two-under 70 on the second day.

O’Donovan was the only player under par on the day in the entire tournament.

The team championship went to Canada’s Academy Golf of Fred Colgan (AGFC). 

They dominated the competition, posting a two day score of 614, 32 shots better than second play St. John’s and 34 shots better than third place Bishop Hendricken. 

The team has been playing in the United States for several weeks, while taking classes virtually in their hotel rooms.

 With that, high school golf season is underway in Rhode Island.

A good portion of teams have matches starting on Wednesday, while others will play later in the week.
