REPORT: Newport Country Club to Host 2024 U.S. Senior Open
Newport Country Club is expected to be named host of the 2024 U.S. Senior Open, according to a report from the Newport Daily News.
The historic club was set to host the 2020 Senior Open, but it was canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement is expected to be made official in April.
USGA History at Newport
If the tournament does return to Newport in 2024, it will add to the already incredible history of the club.
Newport Country Club hosted the first ever U.S. Open and U.S. Amateur in 1895.
Back in 1995, the U.S. Amateur was played there, won by Tiger Woods.
The last USGA event to be held at Newport was the 2006 Women’s Open. That tournament was won by Annika Sorenstam.
Senior Open Locations
According to the USGA, the Senior Open will be played at Omaha Country Club in Nebraska in 2021, Saucon Valley Country Club in Pennsylvania in 2022 and SentryWorld in Wisconsin in 2023.
Currently, 2024 says “to be decided.”
The Broadmoor in Colorado will host the event in 2025.
