1st East Prov City Council Public Meeting on Metacomet Set

The first public meeting of the East Providence City Council regarding the future of Metacomet Golf Club is set. 

The meeting will take place on Thursday, August 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Edward R. Martin Middle School.

“This is the first of two (if necessary) public meetings by the City Council to gather input from the public on Metacomet development. The end time is an approximation. The on-site meeting is at Martin Middle School, 111 Brown Street, and is limited to 125 people. Face masks and social distancing are required, and attendees may be subject to temperature/symptom screening,”  writes Candy Seel, one of the leaders of the group Keep Metacomet Green, on the event page.

Latest on Metacomet 

As has been reported, Metacomet was bought by the group and then sold just a year later to Marshall Development. 

Marshall Development plans to redevelop the property into hotels, a mall and other things. 

As GolfNewsRI reported, a group of East Providence residents are fighting back against development of the property by signing a petition and bringing it in front of the East Providence City Council. 

Most recently, Brad Faxon and his group that bought and sold Metacomet Golf Club received a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan. 

According to the list released by the U.S. Treasury, Metacomet Property Company LLC received a loan ranging between $150,000 and $350,000.
