URI Wraps up Fall Season in Mexico

The University of Rhode Island golf team is set to close their fall season in Mexico this week, at Club Campastre Monterrey.
The Rams are competing in the Monterrey Collegiate Classic, hosted by day George Washington.
“Being able to travel to Mexico and compete in a terrific tournament has us both excited and grateful we could not do this without the largess of our donors. This is an important tournament for us a chance to really find out who we are where each player is heading into the break between seasons,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke.
Besides URI and George Washington, the field includes Drexel, Eastern Washington, Howard, Idaho, Loyola Maryland, North Dakota State, Utah State and Utah Tech.
“The field is really solid and it’ll be a treat to see so many team we never see in tournaments. There’s also a great opportunity for players as individuals to make a statement,” said Burke.
The tournament begins on Monday with 36 holes, followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
URI’s lineup includes Jack Quinn, Tony Liu, Josiah Tong, Sebastian Carlsson and Owen Rooney.
Bennett Masterson will play as an individual.
