URI to Face “Toughest Field” of Season at Moraine Intercollegiate

The URI Rams will face their “toughest field” of the season this week at the Moraine Intercollegiate in Ohio.

The tournament consists of Big 10 schools Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin, as well as, Big East schools UConn and Xavier.

The field is rounded out by Dayton, George Mason, VCU, Jacksonville State and Sam Houston, as well as, Alabama Birmingham, Ohio, Wright State and Louisiana.

“We’re incredibly excited to return to this tournament as it is the toughest field we face all year. The golf course is a top five of my 15 years coaching. We will be taking the same guys who won at GreatHorse and hope this to be a good learning experience. I always have to remind myself that three guys in our starting lineup combined for just one college tournament a year ago,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke.

URI’s lineup will be led by Tony Liu, Jack Quinn, Seb Carlsson and Owen Rooney.

Liu will look to build off an 11th place finish at this tournament in 2025.

Play gets underway with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start at Moraine Country Club.

Team Building for URI

After winning the UConn Invitational, the Rams went to Martha’s Vineyard last weekend for team building.

“We took last weekend as a team bonding experience. We went to Martha’s Vineyard and played three spectacular golf courses. The golf, the food, the camaraderie, and both the stories and laughter is worth 1000 times over. The best part was having former URI quarterback, John Priore as a host. His stories of success with the foundation of being a URI athlete meant the world to the team,” said Burke.

URI played Farm Neck Golf Club, Vineyard Golf Club and Edgartown.
