URI Set for River Run Collegiate
The University of Rhode Island golf team is set for the River Run Collegiate this week down in North Carolina.
The Rams are coming off a tenth place finish at last week’s rain-shortened Doc Gimmler Invitational at Bethpage State Park.
This is URI’s first appearance at the River Run Collegiate, which runs September 21-22.
“For the second straight week we are going to a tournament which replaced a tournament we won last year. It is a huge step up competitively, and the guys are excited to test themselves,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke.
The Rams lineup includes Tony Liu, Bennett Masterson, Josiah Tong, Jack Quinn and Owen Rooney.
Rooney played as an individual last week, but has cracked the lineup this time around.
“Owen Rooney replaces Seb Carlsson in the lineup as we continue to find out who we are. This is a great opportunity for Owen to establish himself as a starter. Tony Liu seems to be playing as he did as a freshman, and Bennett Masterson is coming into his own as we always hoped he would,” added Burke.
Other programs in the field include host Davidson, East Carolina University, Bradford, Marshall, Towson, Dayton, Queens, Presbyterian, Mount St. Mary’s, North Carolina A&T, Youngstown, and Robert Morris.
