Final Hole Birdie Sends Chatfield to Weekend at PGA Tour Fall Opener
Former Rhode Island Amateur Champion Davis Chatfield birdied his final hole of the day to make the cut on the number at the Biltmore Championship on Friday in North Carolina.
Chatfield finished the two rounds at three-under par with a first round 67 and a final round 72 to make the cut on the number.
His second round 72 dropped him 44 spots down the leaderboard, but a birdie on the final hole saved him.
Chatfield tees off at 9:12 a.m. on Saturday with Justin Lower and Chandler Phillips.
Neal Shipley leads the tournament at 15-under par.
Final Hole Heroics
Following a first round 67, Chatfield started the second round on the back nine.
He parred the first four holes, before going bogey, birdie, bogey, par, birdie to turn at an even par 36.
On the second nine, Chatfield parred the first two holes before making a birdie on the par-5 third hole.
However, on the fourth hole, Chatfield made double to push his round to one-over.
He followed up with a bogey on the sixth hole to be two-over for the round and outside of the cut line.
Then comes the par-4 ninth hole.
Chatfield bombed a 300-yard drive to the left side of the fairway and had 153 yards in.
The former Notre Dame star hit is second shot to 20 feet and mad ether putt and made the cut.
