Local Teams Wrap up Play at Rain-Shortened Doc Gimmler Inv.
URI, Bryant and Providence College wrapped up play at the Doc Gimmler Invitational this weekend at Bethpage State Park in New York.
Sunday’s final round was canceled due to inclement weather, meaning the tournament was just a one-day, 36-hole event.
The tournament was won by Yale at 13-under par.
URI lead the local teams by finishing in tenth place overall at 16-over par for the tournament.
The Rams opened with a 12-over first round, before bouncing back with a four-over second round to edge Bryant by one shot and Providence by two shots.
“St. John’s did all it could for us to play today, but as always, Mother Nature is undefeated. We wanted one more round because we would have moved up five or six-spots the way we were playing,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke after the round.
The Rams were led by Tony Liu and Bennett Masterson, who finished in a tie for 21st and 26th respectively.
URI returns to action on September 21 at the River Run Collegiate.
Bryant finished in 11th at 17-over par for the tournament.
They got off to a two-over start in the first round and were near the lead, before carding a 15-over second round to slip.
The Bulldogs were led by Matt Downes who finished in a tie for 11th overall, while Sam Fuentes finished in a tie for 21st.
Providence finished at 18-over par for the tournament and in 12th place.
PC edged out UConn by one shot.
The Friars were led by Callan Fahey, who finished in a tie for 21st overall at two-over par for the tournament.
Evan Buddenhagen, playing as an individual, also finished in a tie for 21st.
Bryant and Providence return to action next weekend at Ledgemont in the Ryan Lee Memorial.
