John Drohen Wins 2nd RI Senior Amateur Title
John Drohen captured his second Rhode Island Senior Amateur title on Thursday afternoon at Triggs.
Drohen finished the tournament at five-under par to win by three shots.
“It feels good. It feels better because it’s like a spring board going into the U.S. Senior Amateur this weekend, so gives me a little boost of confidence, which is always nice,” said Drohen after the round.
His last RI Senior Am title came in 2024, when he edged out Bruce Heterick in a playoff.
Drohen opened the 2026 tournament with a first round 67 and followed up with a final round 72 to hang on for the win.
Bryant assistant coach Rick Angeli, Rob Grossguth and Brian O’Leary all finished in a tie for second at two-under par.
Each of those players made runs at Drohen throughout the round, getting as close as one shot, before Drohen held on.
“I really focus on just one shot at a time. When you’re on the tee box, just try to hit the fairway. When you are in the fairway, just try to hit the green. Just one shot at a time,” said Drohen.
Drohen won the Alpine Club Championship earlier this summer, and now adds another RI Senior Am title.
He leaves for Florida and the U.S. Senior Amateur on Friday morning.
