RI Boys Take 3rd at New England Junior Amateur

The Rhode Island boys finished in third place at the New England Junior Amateur on Tuesday afternoon at Crumpin Fox Club in Massachusetts. 

Rhode Island held a 14 shot lead entering the final 18 holes of the tournament, but fired a team score of 381 in the final round to fall down the leaderboard 

In contrast, Massachusetts fired a final round 348, while Connecticut fired a final round 360 to finish first and second, respectively. 

Mass finished at one-under (1079) for the tournament, Connecticut at 15-over (1095) and Rhode Island at 18-over (1098).  

Scoring HERE 

While the final round certainly stings, this was the best finish for the RI Boys in at least the last three years.

They finished fourth last year at 69-over par, and fifth the year before. 

Leading RI 

The boys were led by Rocco Capalbo, who finished the tournament at even par overall and in a tie for third. 

Capalbo posted rounds of 71, 70 and a final round 75. 

Drew MacLeod finished in a tie for fifth at two-over par, with rounds of 71, 74 and 73. 

Roland Gibson and Kailer Louangxay finished in a tie for 12th at six-over par, while Ishaan Catone rounded out the scoring at 8-over par and in solo 16. 

The individual tournament was on by PC commit Zac Georgantas on the fourth playoff hole against Will Lord. 

URI commits Jack Quinn and Michael McCormack finished in seventh and tenth place respectively. 

Girls Division 

Only two Rhode Island girls played in the tournament, meaning they did not register a team score. 

Emma Lockhart earned a tenth place finish with a three-round score of 21-over par. 

She posted rounds of 81, 79 and 77. 

Maggie McDonald finished in solo 15th with a three-round score of 45-over par. 

New Hampshire’s Mady Savary won the event at nine-over par.
