Chris Francoeur Shoots 59 at KFT’s Utah Championship
Former URI star Chris Francoeur carded a 59 during the second round of the Korn Ferry Tour’s Utah Championship.
It is the first 59 of the season on the Korn Ferry Tour and the 60th round of 59 overall.
“I was left of the green on number four (started on back 9), and chipped it in for eagle to get to ten under. Then birdied the next hole and I was trying not to think about it, and I was doing the math in my head like ‘okay if I Par in, it’s a par 70, 59,” said Francoeur after the round.
He added, “I tried to stay in my process and take it one shot at a time, but I was definitely thinking about it. It’s hard not too. You never go into a round thinking you are going to shoot a score like that.”
Francoeur takes a three-shot lead into the weekend at 17-under par overall.
Francoeur’s 59
Starting on the back side, Francoeur birdied the tenth hole and then parred the next two holes.
Francoeur made three birdies in a row on 13, 14 and 15, followed by a par on 16 and two more birdies on 17 and 18 to turn at 29.
“I think I made the turn at six-under and was playing good. It was gettable this morning and I kind of just kept it going,” said Francoeur.
Turning to the second nine, Francoeur birdied the first hole, parred the second hole and then went birdie, eagle, birdie on three, four and five to get to 11-under.
He would par in to card a second round 59.
