Semifinal Matchups Set at RI Boys Junior Amateur
The semifinal matchups are set at the Rhode Island Boys Junior Amateur at Pawtucket Country Club.
tarting at 7:30 a.m. will be a battle of Ledgemont kids with Lincoln Frisoli taking on Ishaan Catone.
Nine minutes later, Roland Gibson will take on 2025 RI Junior Am finalist Joey Iaciofano.
Frisoli vs Catone
Catone is already making a name for himself in the Rhode Island junior golf ranks.
Just in these last couple of months, he has earned two top 20 finishes at AJGA events and competed at the World Teen Championships.
There, he finished 28th out of 142 in the 14-year-old division.
Fellow Ledgemont member Lincoln Frisoli has been on a heck of a run this week.
In his first round victory over Lincoln’s Luke Cavanaugh, Frisoli aced the fifth hole at Pawtucket.
He moved on to face Rocco Capalbo in the quarterfinal and dispatched him 3&1 in the pouring rain.
Gibson vs Iaciofano
Joey Iaciofano made it to the championship match of last year’s Rhode Island Junior Am before falling to AJ Colonna.
Now, Iaciofano is one match away from getting back there.
Iaciofano’s summer got off to a fast start as he advanced to U.S. Open Final Qualifying, but didn’t play as well as he would have liked in that Final Qualifier.
From there, he was sick for a bit, then injured which forced him to withdraw from some major tournaments.
He did not make the match play cut at the Rhode Island Amateur.
Gibson has had a great week so far at the Junior Am.
In the first round, he held on to beat La Salle’s Sam Perry one-up in a back-and-forth match.
During the quarterfinal match, Gibson beat Michael Letendre two-up in the pouring rain and now finds himself in the semifinals.
