Williams, Correia to Meet in RI Women’s Am Title Match
The Rhode Island Women’s Am title match is set.
Olivia Williams will meet Hanley Correia for the Championship on Friday morning at Agawam Hunt.
“It means everything, I have been working hard this summer and it is finally good for something like this to pay off and have a chance to win it,” said Correia after the round.
Williams is back in the Championship match for the first time since winning the title in 2023, when she beat Adriana Eaton at Kirkbrae.
“It means a lot. I’ve been working really hard and just trying to play my best, and so I’m glad that I made it,” said Williams.
The rising Merrimack sophomore will hope to draw on some of that championship experience this time around.
“From that I’m going to take that even if I’m down, I should just stay focused and just focus on the next hole. One hole at a time,” Williams added.
For Correia, this is her first time in the Women’s Am final, but she did make it to the Junior Am final in 2025, beating Williams in the semifinals.
“Olivia and I faced each other in the semis of the Junior Am last year so just play it like any other day. Any other day of match play, keep calm and just have fun,” said Corriea.
The Championship match gets underway at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
Williams’ Road
Williams entered the match play portion of the tournament as the number two overall seed.
She survived her first round match against close friend Claire McTaggart, beating her 2&1.
In the next round, Williams faced Una Gibson and held her off with a two-up win.
Onto the semifinals where Williams faced Merrimack teammate Morgan MacLeod, who had also been cursing through the tournament.
“I was excited to play with her today because her and her mom, it’s always great to play with them, they are super nice. It was fun, we talked a lot which is always kind of hard because we are in the carts but, it was a fun match,” said Williams.
Williams won the match 5&4 to get to the finals.
Correia’s Road
Correia entered the match play portion of the tournament as the fourth overall seed.
She opened with a dominating 8&7 win over Martha Clancy and then held off rising Johnston star Elizabeth Kue.
Correia beat Kue 3&2 to advance to the semifinals.
In the semis, Correia faced past champion Val Blinn, who was coming off an upset win over top seeded Kylie Eaton.
Correia took control early and ended ups beating Blinn 4&2.
Eaton caddied for Correia in the match.
“She’s great, I mean it was a little hard to ask her yesterday, I was a little nervous, but she just kept me good, kept my confidence up. It’s always good to have someone there to just confirm your thoughts and give reassurance,” said Correia.
No word if Eaton will be back on the back Friday or Hanley’s brother, and Bryant star Chad.
