Watts Takes 4 Shot Lead into Final Round of Northeast Amateur
Tennessee commit Tyler Watts will take a four shot lead into the Saturday’s final round of the Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett.
Just a day after breaking the course record, Watts carded an even par 69 and is 12-under for the tournament.
He had one birdie and one bogey on the day.
“I wouldn’t say I was trying to be aggressive or passive, I was just trying to play the golf course what I felt like what was the right way. I did really well other than that my putter was really cold and it just needs to be better tomorrow,” said Watts after the round.
He told the media that he would be heading back to the putting green Friday evening to work on his stroke.

Watts will be paired with California’s Jay Leng Jr. (8-under) in the final group tomorrow, with the new Wannamoisett record holder looking to close out the tournament.
“I’m going to have to play really smart. But I’m going to have to be aggressive to my targets, hit it in the center of the green a lot and take my two putts when I can. If some putts fall, that would be great and I think that will get the job done. I have to put the ball in the fairway and hit the right shots coming in,” said Watts.
The final group will go off just before noon time on Saturday.
RIers Miss Cut
Five-time Rhode Island Amateur champion Bobby Leopold and reigning Rhode Island Amateur champ Mike Calef both missed the cut.
Leopold and Calef both finished at six-over for the tournament to miss the cut by three shots.
They will now gear up for the Rhode Island Amateur in a little over a week.
