URI Takes 4th at A-10 Championship
The University of Rhode Island golf team finished in fourth place at the A-10 Championship this week down in Florida.
Rhody finished at two-over for the tournament to take fourth, one shot behind VCU for third.
“If you go by just the final two rounds, we came in second. Tyler (Bruneau) was weak, when we left, and missed a practice round because he was so sick, and Tony almost didn’t finish because he wasn’t well. We stayed in a Residence Inn in Orlando that had no running water when we arrived and none when the players switched to another place the next day. So I understand the slow start, but the buys really stepped up,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke.
The tournament was won by Richmond at 14-under par with George Mason finishing second at four-under.
“We beat both VCU and George Mason during the season, so we believed we could contend for the championship,” added Burke.
URI is hoping for a postseason invite to the National Golf Invitational to keep their season alive.
