TPC Sawgrass Delays Gate Opening at The Players After Nearby Double-Murder
The gates at TPC Sawgrass and The Players Championship did not open until 9 a.m. on Saturday morning following a double-murder near the course.
According to reports, two people were shot and killed at a Walgreens about a mile from the course on Friday around 10:30 p.m.
The suspect, identified as Christian Barrios, fled onto the golf course, made contact with PGA Tour staff, picked up a radio and later stole a BMW.
Barrios was captured just after 8 a.m. on Saturday in Nassau County.
“Due to operational considerations, gates for today’s third round will now open at 9 a.m. Tee times will remain as previously scheduled, and all on-course hospitality venues will open at 11 a.m.,” wrote The Players in a statement.
Tee times for the third round were not affected.
