URI Finishes 6th at Palmas Del Mar Collegiate
The University of Rhode Island golf team opened their spring season with a sixth place finish at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico.
Rhode Island finished at five-under for the week to tie for sixth with Kennesaw State.
After posting a four-over first round, the Rams surged in the second with a team score of 9-under to move into third place and into the final groupings with #25 Wake Forest and #43 TCU.

However, a final round even par saw Rhody slide down the leaderboard.
“I am taking complete responsibility for what happened today. I took my foot off the gas and changed the itinerary after the round yesterday. That will not happen again. I did not put the team in the best position to win the golf tournament,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke after the tournament.
He added, “We have a lot of work to do going forward.”
The tournament was won by Wake Forest at 26-under par, six shots better than TCU.
Leading Rhody
The Rams were led in the tournament by Luke Stennett, Aidan O’Donovan and Josiah Tong, who finished at one-over par for the week.
That’s good enough for a tie for 33rd overall.
Tyler Bruneau finished in 40th at two-over, while Tony Liu finished at four-over and in 47th.
Next up
Rhody is now off until March 2 when they play the Sam Ryder Invitational at LPGA International in Florida.
