URI Golf Opens Spring Season in Puerto Rico

The University of Rhode Island golf team opens their spring season on Sunday at the Palamas Del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico.

The tournament will serve as an early test for the Rams as it features five top 100 schools, including Wake Forest (25), TCU (42), Michigan (57), Rutgers (62) and Kennesaw State (91).

“This is an important tournament simply because it ignites the engine to the Atlantic 10 Championship earlier than we’re accustomed. We left last semester with the thought that we have to do all the little things well before we can do great things. Clearly we are not there yet,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke.

Other notable teams in the tournament are Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Delaware.

Temperatures in Puerto Rico are close to 90 degrees.

“This is a business trip for us. The fact that it is in Puero Rico simply needs it is warmer and we had to fly to get there. Other than that, it is a business trip,” added Burke.

Rhody will be repped by Luke Stennett, Tony Liu, Tyler Bruneau, Aidan O’Donovan and Josiah Tong.
