Max Jackson Leads RI Stroke Play Championship After Round 1
Max Jackson fired a five-under 66 to lead the Rhode Island Stroke Play Championship by two shots after the first round at Ledgemont Country Club.
“I played very solid. I was bogey free up until 17, didn’t do a whole lot wrong, just a wayward tee shot on 17. Overall, pretty happy with the round, feel like I’ve been playing good so glad to see a good round finally came out of it,” Jackson told RIGA after the round
The rising sophomore at Rutgers also revealed that he put a new putter in the bag just a few days ago.
“I put in a new putter, literally four days ago, a Lab Mezz, and it was working so hopefully we keep that going into tomorrow. Sometimes just a putter change is all you need,” said Jackson.

Jackson holds a two shot lead over Harry Desssel, Mike Caparco and Will Gregware with 36 holes left to play on Tuesday.
“It’s definitely more of a marathon than a sprint. 54 hole stroke play event, it’s a good format, a lot can happen,” said Jackson.
Overall, the low 42 players and ties made the cut to Tuesday’s final rounds.
The cut was four-over par.
Jackson’s Round
The former La Salle star opened with three birdies in the first five holes to get to three-under par for the round.
Following two pars on six and seven, Jackson birdied eight and nine to turn at five-under 31.
Jackson then birdied the 11th hole to get to six-under for the round.
However, following a string of pars, Jackson gave one back with a bogey on the 17th to card 66.
