Mather Holds on to Win AGTNE Event at South Shore Village GC

Fred Mather earned his fourth win of the Amateur Golf Tour of New England season this weekend at South Shore Village Golf Club. 

Mather carded a seven-over 77 to edge Tom d’Oliveira by one shot and win the tournament. 

d’Oliveira fired an eight-over 78 in the tournament in an effort to clinch his second win of the season.

Mather is the reigning AGTNE Player of the Year for the 2024 season and appears on pace to repeat. 

In six events played, he has four victories.

Mather vs d’Oliveira 

The battle was close throughout as Mather opened with a front nine 40, while d’Oliveira carded a 41.  

Mather’s front nine included a birdie on the second hole, along with four bogeys and a double. 

d’Oliveira’s front nine included three bogeys and a triple bogey on the ninth hole. 

On the back side, Mather played steady with bogeys on 12 and 14 to card a two-over 37, 77 total. 

d’Oliveira made a double on the 13th and a bogey on the 14th. 

He got himself back into contention with a birdie on the 17th, but couldn’t find another birdie on 18 to tie the tournament.

The Amateur Golf Tour of New England is back in action today (Tuesday) at Crestwood Country Club. 

Over Memorial Day Weekend, the Tour visits Raceway Golf Club, before returning back to Rhode Island for an event at Blissful Meadows.
