URI Finishes 4th at National Golf Invitational
The University of Rhode Island golf team snagged a fourth place finish this week at the GolfWeek National Golf Invitational out in Arizona.
The Rams finished at one-under par for the week edging out West Virginia by one shot to take solo fourth in the ten team field.
“This was a special event for us in so many ways. Finishing fourth in this field on a national stage was terrific, What made it so special was that we played as a team and everyone contributed,” said Head Coach Gregg Burke after the round.
This was URI’s first postseason appearance since the NCAA stopped taking teams for the tournament according to districts.

“We came here feeling we were representing New England college golf and in teams like BC, UConn, Harvard, and Yale there is some firepower you don’t hear a lot about,” added Burke.
Ohio State won the tournament at 26-under par, with Utah State finishing second at 19-under.

URI was led by sophomore Josiah Tong, who finished in a tie for 10th place out of 49 players.
He finished the tournament at two-under par overall.
Grad student Sam Magarian closed out his college career with a tie for 17th overall at even par.
“In the two biggest tournaments of the year, the Atlantic 10 Championship and the National Golf Invitational, Sean and Josiah really showed up to play. Josiah gave us a tremendous second semester and has established himself firmly in the top three for next year. We got solid rounds from Aidan O’Donovan in each of the final two rounds as well,” said Burke.
O’Donovan finished in a tie for 28th at three-over par alongside freshman Luke Stennett.
Fellow freshman Tyler Bruneau finished in a tie for 36th place.
