Rhode Island Represented in College Golf’s Postseason

College golf’s postseason is underway across the country and Rhode Island is pretty well represented. 

From local teams like URI and Roger Williams to individual players such as Cole Vieira and Nick Emery, college golf is still alive in Rhode Island. 

Nick Emery

Former St. Rays star Nick Emery is at the end of his freshman season at Saint Anselm. 

They are currently playing in the Division II Atlantic/East Regional at Whispering Woods Golf Course in Pennsylvania. 

Emery is in the lineup for Saint Anselm.

Cole Vieira

In the same NCAA Division II regional as Emery, is former Barrington star Cole Vieira and Assumption. 

However, Vieira is not playing for Assumption in round one, but is with the team as a substitute.

Rebecca Mailloux 

The former Scituate star is now the head coach of the Grand Valley State women’s Golf Team where  they recently won their NCAA Division II Regional Championship. 

Mailloux is a former RI Women’s Amateur Champion and Massachusetts Open champ. 

The Lakers now advance to the National Championships, starting Tuesday out in Boulder City, Nevada.

Roger Williams 

For the second straight year, the Roger Williams men’s golf team is headed to the NCAA Division III Tournament. 

The Hawks have been led by former Toll Gate star Ryan Dacey and are coached by Rhode Island legend Ed Kirby. 

The DIII NCAA Tournament begins on Tuesday, May 20 and runs through Friday, May 23. 

URI 

As GolfNewsRI reported, the Rams were invited to the National Golf Invitational later this month out in Arizona. 

The National Golf Invitational serves as the equivalent to the NIT of college basketball. 

The field for this year’s tournament includes squads from the  Sun Belt, the Mountain West, the WAC, the PAC 12, the Big 12 and the Big 10.

Among those are Ohio State, Oregon State and West Virginia, among others. 

The tournament takes place May 16-18 at Southern AK-Chin Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona.
