Chatfield Set to Begin Third Season on Korn Ferry Tour

Former Rhode Island Amateur champion Davis Chatfield will kick off his third season on the Korn Ferry Tour Sunday in the Bahamas.

Chatfield has full status on the Korn Ferry Tour this season and will be looking to finish inside the top 20 on the season long points list and earn a PGA Tour Card.

“It’s a lot of tournament golf. It’s not something that we had in amateur golf where you kind of pick your schedule of five tournaments in a summer. Out here we can go through a stretch where we play 14 tournaments in 15 weeks,” Chatfield told GolfNewsRI last summer.

Last season, Chatfield played in 24 events and made 21 cuts.

The former Notre Dame star recorded six top 25s and two top 10s, leading to a 44th place finish on the Korn Ferry Tour points list.

“It’s a lot, especially when it is your job, you’re trying to make pay checks, fund the week. It’s different, but it is what we always wanted to do and there is a lot of fun that comes with it as well,” Chatfield added.

Chatfield tees off in The Bahamas Golf Classic at 12:40 p.m. eastern time on Sunday afternoon with Tyler Duncan and Erik Barnes.

Golf Channel will have coverage of the tournament starting at noon.

Welch’s Status

Patrick Welch is an alternate in the field and as of this posting, is not in.

The former Classical star has conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour this season after not finishing inside the top 75 last season.

He will need to play his way back into more of a full status role.
