URI Alum Dawson Jones Advances to Final Stage of Q-School
University of Rhode Island alum Dawson Jones has advanced to the Final Stage of Q-School.
Playing in Florida, Jones finished the tournament at six-under par to make the cut by two shots.
He posted rounds of 72, 71, 68 and a final round 71 to finish tied for 12th overall.
The top 16 players and ties advanced to final stage.
Luke Guthrie took medalist honors at 12-under par.
The Final Stage of Q-School begins on December 12 at TPC Sawgrass.
Jones’ Final Round
Starting the day right on the cut line, Jones played the front nine at even par with a bogey on three and a birdie on the fourth hole.
On the back side, Jones opened up with five straight pars, before dropping birdies at 15 and 16 to move to two-under for the round.
That gave him some wiggle room, which he would need following a bogey on 18.
Devastation for Francoeur
Over in Georgia, fellow URI alum Chris Francoeur was right on the cut line (1-under) through 15 holes of the final round.
However, he closed with four bogeys in his last six holes, including three straight bogeys on 16, 17, 18 to finish at two-over for the tournament and miss the cut.
Francoeur has status locked up on PGA Tour Americas for next season.
