Seekonk Votes to Save Old Firefly Golf Course from Development
The Town of Seekonk has voted to save the old Firefly Golf Course property from potential development.
At a town meeting on Monday, the vote was 271-18 in favor of the town spending up to $6.9 million to save the property, as first reported by The Sun Chronicle.
Firefly Golf Course has been closed since around 2019 and the property will remain as open space, for now.

Prior to this vote, there were plans to build 280 housing units there in 65 buildings.
However, the property is in the state land conversation program which gives the owner a tax break.
Therefore, the town had the first right to purchase the property.
The Chronicle reports that Town Administrator Shawn Cadime told voters that the property could be used as a recreation area and other purposes in the future.
Th $6.9 million will be broken down into payments of $250K a year.
According to The Chronicle, there was a proposal years ago for the town to buy the golf course and keep it as such.
