Patrick Welch and Davis Chatfield opened the Korn Ferry Tour Finals on Thursday at the Boise Open in Idaho.
The Korn Ferry Tour Finals are a three tournament event with the top 30 players on the points list receiving PGA Tour Cards at the end of it.
The Boise Open is the first event.
Through round one, Patrick Welch is five-under and in a tie for 13th overall.
He is currently ranked 105th on the points list and the top 144 players advance to the next event.
Welch has missed two cuts in a row on the Korn Ferry Tour and is looking to maintain his status for next season.
Chatfield is one-under and in a tie for 88th overall in the tournament.
The former Notre Dame star entered the week in 41st and just a handful of spots away from a PGA Tour card.
Kevin Roy leads the tournament at nine-under par.
