Andrade, Quigley Reflect on U.S. Senior Open at Newport
It was not the final results that Billy Andrade and Brett Quigley were hoping for at the U.S. Senior Open at Newport Country Club this week.
Andrade finished 31st and Quigley finished 42nd.
Despite that, it was a magical week at home for the two Rhode Islanders.
“Just an incredible week. I mean, the show coming to town and coming to Rhode Island was fantastic. I thought Rhode Island and the golf course showed incredibly well, and certainly all of Rhode Island should be proud. It’s very cool,” said Quigley after the round.
Andrade added, “Simply amazing. Just everything that I imagined would happen happened. It was just an unbelievable course, setting, Rhode Island, Newport. It just makes me feel very proud to be a Rhode Islander for sure.”
Andrade finished at even par for the tournament with rounds of 64, 74, 71 and 71.
Quigley finished at two-over for the tournament with rounds of 70, 68, 70 and 74.
The USGA Senior Open schedule is set for the next few years, but Andrade is hopeful that the tournament comes back to Newport.
“I think this golf course stacked up great. I think that — I haven’t heard one complaint from one player. That’s odd. Usually somebody that’s not happy. I think it would be awesome to come back here. I think everyone had a wonderful time,” said Andrade.
Richard Bland won the tournament in a playoff.
As far as what is next, Quigley is looking forward to hanging with is kids, while Andrade is looking ahead to a big holiday in Bristol.
“It’s High Holy week in Bristol. We have the 4th of July parade and 300,000 cronies coming in from all over. So we have cookouts and stuff, family, and then we go to Akron for the senior players. So that’s our next tournament. Then I’m not going to the British Senior. My niece is getting married in Newport. It’s just unbelievable.”
